In the 23-minute first set Timi and Mladenovic was very confident: they lost only two points behind the serves. They broke the rival twice: at 1:0 to 40, and at 4:1 to 15. After that the Hungarian-French pair won the seventh game to 0.
The second set brought much more excitement. This also contributed to the Grand Slam tournament rules, instead of no ad-rule afzer 40-40, one of the pairs must win two game with the advantage of two points.
Jovanovski and Piter broke the rival at 1:0 to 30, then saved a total of five break points. Fortunately, they couldn’t save the sixth chance. After that Timi and her partner jumped to a 5:2 lead, with another two breaks.
The eight game again brought huge battle ... The Serbian-Polish duo had six break points and they lived with the last chance. But in the next game Timi and Mladenovic had three match points as a receiver and they won the second.
The 10th seed Hungarian-French pair will meet Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova. The American-Czech duo won 6:3, 6:2 against Tatjana Maria (Germany) and Raluca Olaru (Romania) in the opening round.
The 29-year old Mattek-Sands is ranked 110th in doubles. Her career best position was 11 (4 April 2011). During her career, she has won 13 WTA- and 3 ITF tournament in this genre. A few days ago she celebrated in Sydney, at the 731 000 USD event with the Indian Sania Mirza.
Mattek-Sands in 2010 (Co: Z Yan from Hong Kong) and in 2011 (Co: Meghann Shaughnessy from the USA) reached the last eight at the Australian Open. These are her best results in women's doubles in Melbourne.
The 27-year old Safarova is ranked 38th, her career best position is 15 (3 February 2014). So far, she has won 4 WTA and 1 ITF event in doubles. Last year she was undefeated in Sydney with Timi.
The Czech player in 2013 (Co: with the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova) and in 2014 (Co: Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic) was a quarterfinalist in Melbourne. These are the best results in women's doubles at the Australian Open.
