Wimbledon 2014: sensational victory in Ladies’ Doubles

2014-07-02 – Sensation in Wimbledon: Timi and Kristina Mladenovic won in a huge battle against the defending champion, the World No 1 and fresh Roland Garros champion Su Wei Hsieh and Shuai Peng, so they got into the quarter-final of Ladies’ Doubles at Wimbledon.

 

The match lasted 2 hours, 4 minutes. In mixed doubles Timi and Eric Butorac lost in 1 hour 37 minute against Samantha Stosur and Nenad Zimonjic.

"It was a beautiful day! I played very well in both matches. I look forward to my first Grand Slam quarter-final in Ladies’ Doubles"- Timi said after the mixed doubles match.

 

In the 31-minute first set Timi and Mladenovic broke the opponent after 1:1 and then they had a 3:1 lead. But after that the Asian double broke twice the 21-year old Hungarian player, so they took a set advantage.

 

However, the second set was different! The Hungarian-French pair played very well, and at 1:1 they broke the rival again. They hold the lead until 5:4, but Mladenovic couldn’t saved her service game, although she had two set points...

 

Few minutes later came the tie-break. Timi and her partner had a 5-2 lead, and two set points at 6-4. The opponent saved the first chance, but then they missed a shot, so came the third and final set!

 

At the beginning of the final set the Hungarian youngster hold her service game from 15-40, then she and Kiki Mladenovic broke to rival to 0! After that the French player also won her service game, so it was 3:0.

 

After 3:1 Timi again saved a break point, and it was decisive. The defending champions had game point at 5:2, but they couldn’t lived with the chance. Then Timi and her partner had a match point and Mladenovic hit a wonderful volley, so she finished the match!

 

In the quarterfinal Timi and Kristina Mladenovic will meet the 11th seed Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova. The Russian-Australian pair won 7:5, 6:4 against the 7th seeds, Raquel Kops-Jones - Abigail Spears (U.S.).

 

After a little rest Timi came back on court, this time in mixed doubles with Eric Butorac. The rivals were the multiple Grand Slam champions, Samantha Stosur and Nenad Zimonjic.

 

The Hungarian-American duo played very well in the 24-minute first set! They broke at 1:1, then at 4:2, in the eight game they didn’t lost a rally.

 

In the 25-minute second set Stosur and Zimonjic played much better. They broke twice the young Hungarian, so came the final set.

 

In the third set Timi and Eric Butorac saved a break point at 3:2, then the rival at 5:5. At 7:6 the Hungarian-American pair had a game point, but later the rival won the last point and the whole match.
