AUSTRALIAN OPEN (GRAND SLAM EVENT, HARD COURT), DOUBLES, 2ND ROUND |
Timea Babos, Petra Martic (Hungarian, Croatian) Ashley Barty, Casey Dellacqua (Australian, 5), 6:1, 6:3 |
"I am very happy! Today I played almost perfectly, I played very good at the net, my returns were also successful. We held the opponent under constant pressure. Petra played very well too ! So our opponent had no chance to play their own game. Therefore, the result is smooth ... This is my first Grand Slam third round, I hope to continue my good streak in doubles" - Timi said happily.
„I think this was Timea's the best match I have seen her play and not because of any spectacular shots or serves over 190km/h, but because she maintained the same level the whole match. Timi was willing to adopt the circumstances and to change her game so the team can play more efficient. I have to say that Petra also raised her game for today's match. Both of them were solid from every part of the court and they are jelling together. Next round is going to be another big challenge. Gajdasova and Tomljanovic are two tough player that showed they can play some doubles. I believe Timi and Petra can continue the improvement and play another good match in the round of 16” – said Timi’s coach, Nikola Andjelic.
In the 26-minute first set Timi and Martic played fantastic tennis. Although the Australians (they played three Grand Slam finals in 2013) won the first game, the Hungarian-Croatian duo took the total control. They served and received very well, they played good points at the net.
Timi and Petra Martic three times (!) broke the rival, which was huge surprise. Because it was their third match together, while Barty and Dellacqua had fantastic common results and they played in front of home crowd.
At the beginning of the second set, at 1:1 the Australians broke to 40, but it was the last time, that they could celebrate…Timi and Petra Martic immediately broke back, and at 4:3 they won again the rival’s serve. At 5:3 they lived with the second chance to won the whole match.
During the meeting, the Hungarian-Croatian duo hit two aces and six double faults, the rival’s balance was 0/2. Timi and Martic had 27 winners and 21 unforced errors, the opponent had 14/22.
The Hungarian-Croation duo’s next opponent will be Jarmila Gajdosova (261) and Alja Tomljanovic (221).
