Australian Open 2014: another dramatic defeat in singles

The meeting lasted two hours 37 minutes at the Australian Open.

Last year the Hungarian player also lost in three sets in Melbourne...In the 2013 season she fought hardly against Kristina Mladenovic, who won the third set 9:7. Now Timi again was close to advance, very close...

In the 42 -minute first set Timi won the Slovakian opponent 's serve at 1:1, but immediately lost her advantage. At 3:3 the Hungarian player again broke her rival and pulled away to 5:3. Schmiedlova fought hard, but in the tenth game Timi won her serve from 0-30!

The second set brought a dramatic 57-minute battle. In the first part the young Hungarian had several occasions to broke Schmiedlova, but couldn’t lived with it. The Slovakian saved five break points till 3:2. Then Schmiedlova broke Timi, who came with an immediate break at 4:2, and 5:3. But in the tenth game the Hungarian again lost her serve, which ended the set...

At the beginning of the 58-minute third set Schmiedlova save three break points, then broke her rival fourth time in a row. Then she pulled away 4:1.

The Hungarian player fought hard and saved two match points at 5:3. Then she broke her rival, and equalized to 5:5, saving another match point.

In the last game Timi cleared another two match points, but she couldn’t hold the sixth and final chance of Schmiedlova.

The young Hungarian will start in doubles with Petra Martic (Croatia).
