Wimbledon 2015: winning debut in Ladies’ Doubles

2015-07-02 - Timi and Kristina Mladenovic won in two sets against Magda Linette and Mandy Minella in the first round of Ladies’ Doubles at Wimbledon.

The match lasted 61 minutes. The 4th seed Hungarian-French pair will meet Monica Niculescu and Olga Savchuk in the next round.

The Hungarian-French pair immediately won the opponent’s service game, they lived with the third chance. After that, Linette and Minella saved a total of 4 break points, two each, at the fifth and seventh game.

 

Fortunately, Timi and Mladenovic had no problems with the serves, so they constantly hold the break advantage. At 5:4 the Hungarian youngster won her service game to 0.

 

The second set was much smoother. Minella saved three break points in the opening game, but that was all for the Polish-Luxembourgish pair. After that Timi and Mladenovic easily won the match, they broke the opponent three times.

 

The fourth seed pair’s next opponent will be Monica Niculescu and Olga Savchuk.

 

The 27-year old Niculescu is ranked 52nd, her career best was 24 (7 June 2010). During her career she has won 4 WTA and 21 ITF event in this genre. She was a quarter-finalist at the Australian Open in 2012, and at the Roland Garros in 2010. Her best result in Wimbledon was the third round in 2009. This year she was a finalist at Hobart (Australia, 250,000 USD, hard court, Co: Vitalia Dyatchenko).

 

The 27-year old Savchuk is ranked 61st, her career best was 51 (6 April 2015). She has won 2 WTA and 8 ITF event in doubles.


On Friday evening, it was decided that Timi and Alexander Peya will meet Belinda Bencic and Philipp Oswald in the second round of the Mixed Doubles. The Hungarian player is ranked 8th, while her Austrian partner is 16th in the World Rankings in doubles.

 

Bencic is 22nd in singles, and 102nd in doubles. Her career best in doubles was 98th (8 June 2015). She won 1 WTA and 2 ITF events in doubles. This year she celebrated in Prague (Czech Republic, 250,000 USD, clay, Co: Katerina Siniakova).

Oswald is in 50th place in the world ranking in doubles, his career best was 37 (23 February 2015). This year he was a finalist in Doha (Qatar, 1,129,815 USD, hard court, Co: Julian Knowle) and celebrated a tournament victory in Rio (Brazil, 1,414,550 USD, clay, Co: Martin Klizan).
