Wimbledon 2015: 2 difficult match, 2 victory in doubles

2015-07-04 - Timi and Kristina Mladenovic won in two sets against Monica Niculescu and Olga Savchuk in the second round of the Ladies’ Doubles at Wimbledon.



The match lasted 1 hour 17 minutes. The 4th seed Hungarian-French pair will meet Michaella Krajicek and Barbora Strycova in the last 16. On late Saturday afternoon Timi and Alexander Peya won in the second round of the Mixed Doubles against Belinsda Bencic and Philipp Oswald.

"Ooohh, it was a long day...I am glad for the victories! It was both difficult. We did not play our best tennis, but we fought and we wanted to win! Tomorrow is a day off, I think I can need it, it will be good for Me” - said Timi.

 

At the beginning of the 37-minute first set the Romanian-Ukrainian pair broke the opponent to 15, at 2:2. Fortunately, that lead didn’t last long. Timi and Mladenovic broke back immediately, then the French youngster saved three break points.

 

The 4th seed pair broke the opponent int he best moment, after 5:4.

 

The second set brought a different scenario. Timi and Mladenovic constantly put the pressure ont he opponent, and finally they broke Niculescu and Savchuk at 4:3. Buti t was not enough…

 

The Romanian-Ukrainian pair broke Mladenovic to 15. Then they served for 5:5, but without success. Timi and Mladenovic received well, and Savchuk hit a double fault at the second match point…

 

The Hungarian-French duo's next opponent will be the 14th seed Michaella Krajicek and Barbora Strycova.

 

Krajicek is ranked 31st, her career best was 23 (23 March 2015). The 26-year old Dutch player has won 5 WTA and 15 ITF event in this genre. This year she was a semifinalist in Brisbane (Australia, 1 million USD, hard court, Co: Karolina Pliskova), Birmingham (England, 731 000 USD, grass, Co: Strycova) and at the Australian Open (Australia, hard court, Co: Strycova). She reached the last eight with Strycova at the Roland Garros. She also was a quarter-finalist in Prague (250,000 USD, clay, Co: Ka Pliskova), in Doha (Qatar, 731,000 USD, hard court, Co: Strycova) and Antwerp (Belgium, 731 000 USD, carpet, Co: Niculescu).
 
The 28-year-old Czech player has won 17 WTA and 10 ITF tournament in doubles. Her career best was 14 (31 January 2011), now she is ranked 29th.

 

On Saturday evening Timi and Alexander Peya won a great battle in 1 hour 53 minutes against Belinda Bencic and Philipp Oswald int he second round of the Mixed Doubles.

 

The fifth seed Hungarian-Austrian pair won the first set smoothly, they broke the opponent three times. In the second set Bencic and Oswald carefully hold their service games. But Timi and Peya had three break points at 5:5, but without success.

 

So the tie-break decided the fate of the second set. The Swiss-Austrian pair broke the rival at 5:5, and then they hold their serve, to equalize in sets.

 

Int he third set Bencic and Oswald had a break advantage at 2:1, but then they immediately lost their service game. Timi and Peya put the pressure ont he opponent, and after 6:5 they broke Bencic to 0.
