On Friday, the maid draw was made in WS at the opening Grand Slam tournament of the year: Timi will meet Heather Watson in the first round. The British player is ranked 53rd, while her Hungarian opponent is ranked 59th.
"I think it's not a bad draw. Last year I played and won against Watson, at Cincinnati, I can draw strength from that match, I can learn from it. Hopefully We will build a winning strategy. I know she’s a good player, she have had many good results. But I feel I'm in good shape. Since the Shenzhen tournament I could train a lot, because I want a good result at the Australian Open” - said Timi.
Watson was born on 19 May 1992, her career high position was 38 (19 January 2015). During her career, she has won 2 WTA and 5 ITF tournament in singles. Her best result at a Grand Slam event was the third round: at the Australian Open in 2013, and at Wimbledon in 2012 and 2015.
Last year the British player last year, remained undefeated at the beginning of the year in Hobart (Australia, 250 000 USD, hard court), she defeated a total of 4 Top50 player, in the final she won against Madison Brengle (then WTA-84). But after that Watson was defeated in the opening round at the Australian Open, by Tsvetana Pironkova (6:4, 6:0).
Later, in the 2015 season the British player was a quarter-finalist in Hong Kong (250 000 USD, hard court).
This week Watson reached the last eight in Hobart.
Timi and Watson has met four times among the adults: in 2013 in the Fed Cup Watson won 6:3, 6:2, then in Pattaya City the Hungarian youngster retired at 1:6, 0:3 due to an illness. In the 2014 season Watson won the semifinal 7:6, 6:3 at the Prague ITF tournament. Last year in Cincinnati qualies Timi defeated the Biritish player, 6:2, 1:6, 6:3.
On Sunday, the doubles draw was made for the Australian Open: Timi and Katarina Srebotnik will meet Vera Dushevina and Katerina Siniakova in the opening round. The Hungarian-Slovenian pair was seeded 4th in Melbourne.
The 29-year old Russian player in ranked 86th, her career best position was 27 (25 June 2007). So far, she has won 2 WTA and 5 ITF competition in this genre, in 2005 she was quarter-finalist at Wimbledon. Last season Dushevina was a finalist in Tashkent (Uzbekistan, 250 000 USD, hard court), with Siniakova.
The 19-year old Czech player is ranked 54th, her career high was 42 (27 July 2015). So far, she has won 2 WTA and 5 ITF tournament in doubles. Last season, she remained unbeaten in Prague (Czech Republic, 250 000 USD, clay) with Belinda Bencic, then came the success in Tashkent.
