A huge success! In the opening round of the Australian Open Timi won a great battle (6:7, 7:5, 7:5) against Heather Watson, and this victory is also reflected well in the latest world ranking. The 22-year old Hungarian player moved form the 60th position to the 51st, so she has a new career high.
WTA RANKINGS: SINGLES (TIMI: 51st)
WTA RANKINGS: DOUBLES (TIMI: 12th)
This year Timi already set her best: after the Shenzhen semifinal she was 59th. Firs time, she was 59th on 20th of August 2012.
Last season Timi four times celebrated career high – and also Hungarian record – in doubles. Her best position was 8th, on 22 June 2015.
This year the Hungarian youngster reached the second round at the Australian Open in doubles with Katarina Srebotnik. So, she moved back from the 11th position, to 12th.
"Obviously, Timi stepped forward in her game! The better results brought better ranking, as well. This is due to the work done in training. Timi is working hard and very systematically. She improved her physical condition, body composition, and technique. She also improved a lot mentally. The ranking position is obviously very important. After all, last year she played a lot of matches in the qualifying. And it’s hard to play a good tennis on the main draw after two or three hard matches in the qualies. Or maybe didn’t reach that event. So, with this good ranking, her schedule will be much, much more predictable and Timi will play her matches with fresh legs on the main draw. It is likely that she will be seeded at the smaller WTA International tournaments. On the big tournaments, she won’t be seeded, yet. But if her game continues to evolve, and so the position, then she will be seeded at the big events, too” – said Csaba Babos, Timi’s Father and boss of the Timi Team.
