2016-02-01 - Statement by Timi and Thomas Drouet.

A huge success! In the opening round of the Australian Open Timi won a great battle (6:7, 7:5, 7:5) against Heather Watson, and this victory is also reflected well in the latest world ranking. The 22-year old Hungarian player moved form the 60th position to the 51st, so she has a new career high.

This year Timi already set her best: after the Shenzhen semifinal she was 59th. Firs time, she was 59th on 20th of August 2012.

Last season Timi four times celebrated career high – and also Hungarian record – in doubles. Her best position was 8th, on 22 June 2015.

This year the Hungarian youngster reached the second round at the Australian Open in doubles with Katarina Srebotnik. So, she moved back from the 11th position, to 12th.

- Last year You celebrated four times a career high, this season You celebrated in singles. What’s these record means for You?

- Of course I am very, very happy with my new ranking in singles. I moved forward almost thirty places in recent months. This is very encouraging and positive! This is of course a good thing, especially knowing that I trained and worked very hard in the last one and a half to two years, to move for a better place. Last year’s doubles successes helped Me a lot, I celebrated Hungarian record for times. Honestly, I've always thought that the doubles will help Me in singles, also. And it proved. I hope that in the near future I will be even better.

- Is there any impact of these records in Your career?

- This could affect a lot of things. In particular, it will help Me in forming my schedule of tournament, because I do not need to play as many qualifiers. I will be on the main draws. In addition, of course, it affects my self confidence, and it will be a good motivation for the next tasks. After all, a player can make a mistake, when he or she reach a set target and she began to train less. That's what I went through, when I reached the top100 first time. Now the situation is completely different, I am moving forward gradually, step by step. I know how much work is behind Me. Of course I would like to thank the encouragement of my family, my fans and coaches! As I said earlier, I hope this is just the beginning!

From almost two years the Hungarian youngster is working with Thomas Drouet. The coach previously worked with Bernard Tomic, and during the 2013 Wimbledon victory, with Marion Bartoli and after that with Shuai Peng.

„First, I would like to say that I am very proud that Tímea reach her highest ranking this Monday. It’s been 2 years that we are working very hard every day together. I remember 2 years ago when I came to see play in Paris, she was not very confident and she was going down in the ranking. We spoke and I told her that I see big potential in her, but it will be a long process with a lot of work. 3 weeks after I went to Brazil to start to work with Tímea. We had very hard moments, especially in the beginning after each loss. We went to practice even at 7 o’clock in order to have full court, hard session of gym…But we knew that it was just a question of time on persevering” – said the French-Monaco coach.

„Months after months she was improving every part of her game and also began to play more confidently. The results came also with a title in Japan, then at the end of the season in Poitiers 100k. The 2015 season was again a way of improving with much better results in the big tournaments, and a final in marrakech. She beat many top 20 players and had good loss against them. So from Monday she will be WTA-51 and it gives Me again more motivation to work with Tímea, and hope for the future. We must continue to work on every part because I’am sure that she will go much higher. I would like also to thanks all the person who help us, her familly her sponsor (MOL, Szerencsejáték Zrt., Mazda, Fila, Babolat), physical trainer (Josko Silic) and the mental coach in Hungary (Olivér Borsos).
